Getting here
Karlštejn Castle overlooks a small town of the same name over the Berounka River, about 40 km south-west from Prague. To get here you can choose several options.
1) By car or by coach
When travelling to Karlštejn by car (coach), it is best to take D5 motorway towards Pilsen (exit 10 – Loděnice) and follow signs through villages of Bubovice and Hlásná Třebaň to Karlštejn. When travelling from Pilsen it´s the same way from the opposite direction – D5 motorway, exit 10 – Loděnice and then continue as mentioned above.
If you are interested in something more local, drive from Prague through Prague-Radotín, Dobřichovice, Řevnice, Hlásná Třebaň to Karlštejn. We do not recommend this road to coaches.
The central (and the only) car park is in the town below the castle. Information about parking and prices can be found in the town of Karlštejn website.
The castle can be reached in 15 minutes walking. The town of Karlštejn is a pedestrian zone and all traffic rules violations are solved by the Karlštejn Municipal Police.
2) By train
Train connection from Prague or from Beroun to Karlštejn operates every 30 minutes. When on the Karlštejn Station turn right, cross the Berounka River, turn right again and after 50 meters turn left. Then follow the main road up to the castle.
3) By bike
There are many hiking trails in the Karlštejn area, or you can explore the beauty of the Czech Karst Protected Landscape Area when riding the local roads.
However, the town of Karlštejn itself is a pedestrian zone and you MUST NOT ride a bicycle in it. We kindly ask you to respect that. Violation of this rule will be penalised by the Karlštejn Municipal Police. If you decide to visit the castle you can use bike stands in the Main Courtyard next to the Third Gate. More information for cyclists.
ATTENTION: The town of Karlštejn is a pedestrian zone all day long and it is closed for cars as well as for bicycles. Please respect pedestrians. Thank you.
